Country singer Randy Travis has been hospitalized with a viral heart infection and is in critical condition, his publicist said Monday.
The 54-year-old was admitted to a Texas hospital on Sunday, reports CNN. He is suffering from complications related to his “recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy,” Kirt Webster, Travis’s spokesman, wrote in a statement.
Travis received probation charges in 2012 after being arrested for assault and public intoxication.
The singer also pled guilty to a DWI charge after he wrecked his car and was found naked on a highway, reports Rolling Stone.
In recent months, however, Travis has focused on his health and sobriety.
As one of the music industry’s top-selling and most famous country artists, Travis has garnered seven Grammys, 10 Academy of Country Music awards, and 10 American Music Award statuettes.
