Randy Travis remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery following a stroke.
Travis’ publicist Kirt Webster explained that the country music singer suffered a stroke while being treated for congestive heart failure Wednesday night, USA Today reports. The 54-year-old was hospitalized Monday following complications from cardiomyopathy. The cardiomyopathy was brought on following a respiratory viral infection he contracted just weeks prior.
The surgery performed on Travis was in the hopes of relieving pressure from his brain following the stroke.
His sister-in-law initially announced that the “Forever and Ever, Amen” singer underwent heart surgery, but was later corrected by his representative. The Grammy Award winner was transferred from Baylor Medical Center to Heart Hospital Plano where Dr. Michael Mack said that the singer’s health was improving just yesterday. He suffered the stroke just hours later.
"His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support," his rep said in a statement.
