Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Teresa Giudice and husband Joe are facing jail time after a 39 count indictment has been released against the reality couple.
According to TMZ, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced the indictment which states that the Giudice’s intentionally withheld financial information from the IRS and are accused of conspiracy to illegally obtained mortgages and also claimed in documents that they made more than they actually do in order to obtain loans.
Additionally, the 39 counts include Giudice improperly noting how much she makes on the reality series when she filed bankruptcy ,mail fraud and tax evasion. Joe allegedly failed to file returns from 2004-2008 where he made an estimated $1 million.
Associated Press reports a statement from Fishman which reads, "The indictment returned today alleges the Giudices lied to the bankruptcy court, to the IRS and to a number of banks. Everyone has an obligation to tell the truth when dealing with the courts, paying their taxes and applying for loans or mortgages. That's reality." According to the report, Teresa plans on pleading not guilty with her attorney stating, “We look forward to vindicating her."
Teresa released a statement following the announcement saying, “Today is a most difficult day for our family."
