Though Shailene Woodley’s appearance in The Amazing Spider Man 2 , will remain on the cutting room floor, the actress says she’s content with director Marc Webb’s decision to remove her character.
“I think it's smart, honestly," Woodley told MTV . "Looking back at it, MJ was in I think four scenes. I shot three days and they were good scenes, but they were also like 45-second long scenes, and to introduce such a vital character like that doesn't make much sense in the end."
As previously reported , Woodley was given the part of MJ, Peter Parker’s girlfriend, and later wife, formerly played by Kirsten Dunst opposite Toby Maguire in the comic book trilogy of the early 2000s.
Woodley said that while she is disappointed to not appear in the upcoming film, she said working alongside Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone was a worthwhile experience. Further, she respects the decision to remove her scenes if it benefits the film.
"In the beginning I don't think it was something anybody ever really thought about, because it was just like, OK, we'll introduce MJ in this one, and bring her back in the next," the 21-year-old said. "But then after they sort of started cutting it together, they realized that it didn't make much sense."
Woodley is currently promoting the indie coming-of-age story, Spectacular Now! .
