Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crashed and caught fire at San Francisco International Airport today.
The ten-hour flight left Incheon International Airport this morning.
The airplane came to rest near Runway 28. The tail section is missing, as well as much of the upper fuselage.
“The tail was too low. Instead of coming in flat it was coming in at a 45-degree angle, with the tail far too low[.] It really went through quite a few acrobatics on the runway,” witness Stefanie Turner told NBC News .
The FAA says that The San Francisco airport is closed to air traffic and does not know when the airport will reopen.
“Right now, there is just a lot of smoke and all the fire trucks are trying to get to the plane,” airport restaurant manager Juan Gonzalez told CNN .
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. Members of the nearby U.S. Coast Guard base are assisting first responders at the scene.
Asiana Airlines bought the Boeing 777 jumbo jet in 2006.
Incheon International is one the world’s busiest airports.
