The CW confirmed that it is working on bringing another DC Comics hero to television - The Flash. Network head Mark Pedowitz said at the Television Critics Association Press Tour that the planned Wonder Woman series is also on hold.

Prior to the CW panel, Deadline broke the news, reporting that Arrow co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter had been recruited to develop the show. It would be a spin-off from Arrow, since Barry Allen will be introduced as a recurring character in the show.

“We plan to introduce the recurring character of Barry Allen who is the Flash,” Pedowitz said, reports The Hollywood Reporter. “We're planning an origin story and we'll see how it goes. We do want to expand on DC Universe, and we felt this is a very organic way to get there.”

Berlanti and Kreisberg will pen the pilot with DC veteran writer Geoff Johns, who has worked on Arrow. Nutter is set to direct.

Pedowitz said that they are still working on Amazon, the planned Wonder Woman show. “Amazon is on pause (as) the script is not exactly what we wanted, and with an iconic character like Wonder Woman, we have to get it right,” Pedowitz told the press.

Arrow starts its second season in the fall.

The Flash is a hero with superspeed and has been around since 1940, but The CW will use the Silver Age Flash, Barry Allen. The character previously appeared in a show that lasted one season in 1990.
