They may chew off your new sneakers. They may urinate in your groceries. And they may look at you adoringly before snatching that last piece of chicken. No, I’m not talking about your little brother. I’m talking about your lovable mutt. Whether that pup of yours came from an animal shelter or a humane society, it has given you that special unconditional love that only a wagging tail can provide. While you still can’t tell what mixed breed it came from (how many different breeds of terriers and spaniels are out there anyway?), it still caught your attention to bring home. Now, in honor of National Mutt Day, here are ten adoptable dogs to tug at your heartstrings:

10. Found in La Puente, California, Dakota is a 5-year-old female Longhaired Chihuahua Sheltie mix at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter.

9. Abandoned by her owners at the Downey Animal Shelter in California, Hanna is a 2-year-old female Brittany Spaniel mix.

8. Located at the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society in California, Carter is a 2-year-old male Pit Bull Terrier mix that was found in Temple City.

7. Justis, a 4-year-old male Collie Golden Retriever mix, resides now in Huron, South Dakota at the Beadle County Humane Society.

6. Rescued from a beach in Puerto Rico, Portia is a female Labrador Retriever Poodle about 9 years old now residing at the Boston Sanctuary.

5. Mork, a 5-year-old male Schnauzer Poodle mix, lives at a foster home courtesy of the Motley Zoo Animal Rescue in Redmond, Washington.

4. Found at Baldwin Park after a fireworks accident, Panda is a female 3-year-old Shetland Sheepdog Papillion mix that was brought in to the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter.
