The fourthcoming remake of Romeo and Juliet is scheduled to hit theaters on September 6th of this year.
The film, which has been relatively hush-hush until MTV released its trailer, features Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) as Juliet and Douglas Booth (LOL) as Romeo. The film will also feature Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl and Paul Giamatti according to the Romeo and Juliet official IMDB page.
According to Yahoo!, Steinfeld told Access Hollywood that the script has been modernized a bit for the generation watching it but definitely sticks to traditional.
The last adaptation to William Shakespeare’s play was in 1996 and featured Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. The flick took a modern spin on the traditional play, putting the characters in a modern day setting but stuck with the original script. While the last adaptation may be hard to beat, these two fresh-faced young stars definitely have potential. Hailee Steinfeld’s debut performance as Mattie Ross in True Grit landed her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
