True Blood, the hit HBO series, has been officially renewed for a seventh season.
"True Blood remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers," said Michael Lombardo, president of programming for HBO, explained as quoted by Rolling Stone, "Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV."
Despite seeing a decline in viewership in season six, the vampire series still remains a huge success, exceeding 10 million viewers each week, Hit Fix reports. Brian Buckner, who replaced Alan Ball, will continue his role as showrunner when True Blood returns in 2014.
It is unclear if the seventh season will see a drop in episode count as it did in season six.
According to E! News, True Blood actor Ryan Kwanten revealed the news of a loss of a key character during the season six premiere party. "It was tough; even in the table read when we knew that this character was going to go, there were tears galore," Kwanten expressed without giving away exactly who would not be returning to the show.
