Tyson Gay, an American 100-meter record-holder, tested positive late last week for a banned substance. After a drug test on May 16, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency notified him late last week of his positive result.
This season, Gay holds the fastest 100-meter time in the world. Because of the test result he is no longer competing in the world championships next month in Moscow, Russia.
Boston.com reports that Gay was heartbroken over the matter.
“I don’t have a sabotage story. I don’t have any lies. I don’t have anything to say to make this seem like it was a mistake or it was on USADA’s hands, someone playing games,” said Gay, who would not reveal the substance he got in trouble for. “I don’t have any of those stories. I basically put my trust in someone and I was let down.”
In 2007, Gay was a triple-world champion after getting over his health problems of having continuous hamstring and groin problems, along with surgically repaired hips.
According to USA Today, a few years ago Gay joined the USADA’s program called “My Victory. I compete clean.” The program was created for athletes that pledge to compete in their sport while staying completely clean and never using substances.
