The royal baby’s regal name, George Alexander Louis, has certainly set Will and Kate’s bundle of joy on the path to greatness, but does the newest member of the British monarchy have a last name?

According to The BBC the answer is a little tricky, as a surname for baby George is not necessarily required. When not addressed by name, the prince will likely go by the title His Royal Highness (HRH) the Prince, but if his parents want to choose a last name, they have three options available.

Prince George could throw it back and use Mountbatten-Windsor, the combined surname of Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth II. Wales, grandfather Prince Charles’ royal house, is another contender, as father William and uncle Harry could go by William and Harry Wales, E! News explains.

Finally, though most refer to the prince’s mother as Kate Middleton, she is officially Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Great-Grandmother Queen Elizabeth II bestowed William and Catherine with the house of Cambridge upon their marriage, so Cambridge is a likely candidate for the royal baby’s last name.
