After last night’s emotional finale of The Bachelorette, many viewers were left wondering if Desiree Hartsock had settled for her second choice when she agreed to marry Chris Siegfriend after a devastating breakup with Brooks Forester. However, in interviews following last night’s After the Final Rose special, Desiree assured viewers that Chris was never a second choice.

Hartsock told reporters on a conference call, “Chris was never a second choice. There were still two weeks left even when Brooks left… The feelings that come during this experience are very accelerated.”

Siegfried says that he knows everything that went on with Brooks, but that he didn’t want to watch the break-up, or any of Desiree’s dates with the other men, when they aired on television. He said, “I was confident the entire time in the relationship Des and I were building… We decided early on that it was best for me to watch the parts that we shared together on the episodes. It isn’t hard for me to turn the TV off after our dates.”

The couple is very happy together, and revealed last night on the After the Final Rose special that they plan on moving in together very soon. Desiree says that she hopes for the wedding to be held next summer, as a televised event.

Chris proposes to Desiree on the final episode of The Bachelorette.
