It’s safe to say the eighth episode of the ten-episode season was accurately titled as the vamps may as well be dead meat after tonight’s episode.
If there was an episode set out to raise questions and uncertainty this would be the one. Was anyone else’s mind boggling after the credits started rolling, wondering: Are the vampires safe? Did Eric kill Warlow? Will Sookie really become a fairy-vampire? What the hell was that between Sookie and Sam? Is Eric safe?
Here’s the rundown on tonight’s episode, “Dead Meat.”
1. Eric goes into crazy mode after he remains covered in Nora’s “warm” goo. He blames Bill for not seeing her death coming and begins to go into hysteria, eventually leading Bill to kick him out after denying any part in helping him. He later devises a plan of his own – which we gotta admit, we’re a little afraid – the first part of it involved drinking Andy’s poor daughter’s blood along with Warlow’s.
2. The werewolf/shifter storyline came to a close : The stakes were high in the last episode when Alcide was caught lying to the pack. Rikki decides to try and take him down but fails. Alcide brings Nicole and her mother safely back to Sam and the two do countless rounds of shots in Merlotte’s just like old times
3. Jason is taken into the fangs of Violet, a possessive vampire who continuously feeds on him and (attempts to) seduce him
4. James makes the mistake of telling Steve Newlin about the contaminated Tru Bloods: Why he decided to tell the one vampire who is the largest blabbermouth ever, we don’t know. But word got back to Newlin and gang causing those vampires who don’t drink the blood – aka Pam, Jessica, Tara, Willa, and James – to stand in the room where they are to meet the sun. This scene feels eerily familiar…
5. Sookie is given an ultimatum: if she gets Warlow to help Bill and thus her vamp friends, then she must agree to be Warlow’s forever, which would mean turning into a vampire. Bill plans to drink Warlow’s blood and feed it to the other vampires in camp so they can walk in the sun and defeat the humans. Only problem is, Eric beat him to the catch! And we’re not sure if Warlow is still alive…
6. Arlene learns the truth about Terry’s “assisted” suicide: Poor Arlene is still grieving the loss of Terry. She is heartbroken to find out that he planned his own death and wishes for Andy to track down his killer, though Holly and Andy are trying to convince her not to. In the meantime, she has some disagreements with the Bellefleur family as they plan Terry’s funeral – his mother wants the funeral to have a 21 gun salute because of the Bellefleur’s military involvement, yet Arlene finds it sick and wrong.
7. Sam smells something on Nicole, and in a very unexpected scene blurts to Sookie that Nicole is pregnant. Prior to dropping the bomb, Sookie goes to Sam showing him her light and talking about how she always thought they’d end up together. Sam is clearly torn apart as he just told Nicole to stay and that he loved her. But does he really love her for the right reasons?
8. SARAH NEWLIN IS PSYCHO, BEWARE EVERYONE ESPECIALLY ERIC: Who else cringed when Ms. Suzuki, the Tru Blood manufacturer angrily walked in demanding to speak to the Governor? We knew it wouldn’t be a pretty scene but we didn’t know it would be that horrifying of a scene as Sarah Newlin went all Tony Soprano on her so the secret of her vamp camp wouldn’t be spread. In a truly uncomfortable scene, Ms. Newlin murders the spokeswoman with a high heel shoe, spilling the droplets to the hungry vampires down below.
And if this wasn’t enough of an eventful episode, there’s a lot to look out for next week. Eric is on a mission after the loss of Nora to stop the LAVDF once and for all, Bill’s plans must shift, the fate of Warlow is in the fairy gods’ hands, and the vampires are living out Bill’s vision of the true death.
