A jury in Massachusetts formally charged former NFL athlete Aaron Hernandez with first-degree murder for shooting Odin Lloyd.
There were also charges made to two other people that were connected to Hernandez. The ex-New England Patriot athlete faces a life sentence in prison if guilty. Hernandez is pleading not guilty according to, NBC news.
Lloyd, who was 27 years old, was found dead on June 17th from five gunshot wounds. His body was left in an industrial park near Hernandez’s home. Prosecutors allegedly state that Hernandez also had two other people that helped him set up the murder, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, according to US Magazine.
Ortiz and Wallace have been punished with lesser charges. Hernandez is also being under investigation for a drive-by double homicide in July of 2012, according to US Magazine.
Hernandez’s cousin Tanya Singleton was also charged with criminal contempt after failing to speak with the jury, according to NBC news.
