After his Jaguar burst into flames on a Los Angeles freeway, Dick Van Dyke was pulled to safety by Californian passerby Jason Pennington, who happened to notice Van Dyke struggling to escape from the car.

Pennington told TMZ that he was driving on the 101 when he noticed an elderly man stuck inside of a flaming vehicle. He pulled over to help the man, only to discover 87-year-old Van Dyke in the dire situation. He thought that the actor had fainted and quickly pulled him out of the car as it continued to burn. Two nurses also assisted him.

By the time Pennington was able to pull Van Dyke from the vehicle, Van Dyke suffered some disorientation but did not need to go to the hospital after the incident. He was able to go home with his wife, Arlene, soon after, who tweeted, "He's fine, thank God."

According to The Guardian, Van Dyke was rescued by porpoises who noticed him dozing off aboard a surfboard three years ago, which means the former entertainer has cheated death twice.
