Adam Levine’s next step in (pop culture) world domination? Semi-autobiographical sitcom.
According to Deadline, the Maroon 5 frontman/The Voice judge/American Horror Story star/superhuman Levine teamed up with Community writer Gene Hong to produce a single-camera comedy for NBC.
Hong will write the script, while Levine is on board to executive produce. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two men are longtime before-they-got-famous friends and former roommates. The as-of-yet untitled comedy will be based loosely on their friendship.
This isn’t the first time the duo has tried to break into the sitcom scene: they developed a karaoke bar sitcom for NBC in 2011, but it was ultimately passed up by the networks, according to Deadline.
The venture also comes as part of Levine’s new “first-look” deal with NBC, according to THR. Levine and his producing partner, Jordan Feldstein, signed a deal with the network in May to create “scripted and alternative programming to serve as series and specials for the network.”
Other details – such as casting – are still in pre-production limbo, but one can only hope that Levine finds time from his busy superstar schedule to make a cameo (or five).
