Fans of A&E’s original scripted shows have received some mixed news today. While Longmire was given a third season, The Glades has been cancelled.
Deadline reports that Longmire executive producer John Coveny broke the news about his show on Twitter. “Thanks to the 5 million plus weekly fans (live+7). Young and older skewing alike! The call just came: SEASON 3 for #Longmire is a GO,” he wrote.
The show’s season four finale drew a season high 4.4 million viewers, with 1.1 million in the 18-49 demo and 1.5 million in the 25-54 demo. Deadline notes that the show has done well in the older demos for A&E, but the younger audience did climb from season one to season two.
As for The Glades, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the Matt Passmore-starring show was given the axe. The show’s season finale drew 3.4 million total viewers, but the season as a whole only averaged 2.6 million viewers. In addition, it was not drawing the 18-49 crowd, averaging just 762,000 viewers over the season.
The Glades began in 2010 and was A&E’s first scripted drama to get a second season.
While The Glades is gone, the network still has Bates Motel. The network is also developing Those Who Kill with Chloe Sevigny for next year.
