Amanda Bynes is still being held in a psychiatric ward against her will and it doesn’t look like she’ll be leaving as soon as she hoped. A judge has denied her request to leave the ward and she will have to stay another two weeks.
Bynes has been in the psych ward under a 5150 hold since July 23, after she was found setting a small fire in someone’s driveway. Initially, authorities would only be allowed to keep her there for 72 hours, but a judge ruled that she will have to stay an additional two weeks.
Accoridng to TMZ, Bynes and her lawyer tried to convince the judge on Thursday that there wasn’t a legal basis for the extra two weeks. Sources for the site claim that Bynes’ attorney said that she isn’t a danger to anyone and that she can care for herself. But the judge disagreed, instead siding with doctors who say the extra time is necessary to give Bynes a proper diagnosis.
Before the hearing, TMZ had reported that Bynes was doing better because of a mix of medication that has been referred to as a cocktail. The medication is apparently used for signs of schizophrenia and take seven to 10 days to be fully effective.
Meanwhile, Bynes’ parents have been trying to get conservatorship to handle their daughter’s life. However, those efforts were shot down and another hearing was set for Aug. 9.
