Amanda Bynes is reportedly showing signs of improvement at the hospital where she is being held in a psychiatric ward under court orders. She has been crying and expressing emotions, signs that she may not be schizophrenic.
As we reported Friday, Bynes was ordered to stay in the hospital another 30 days as doctors try to diagnose her and see the effects a drug cocktail. She’s been in the psych ward since July 23, under a 5150 hold that initially lasted just 72 hours. But doctors got an extension and a judge approved another extension last week.
TMZ reported today that the cocktail appears to be working, according to the site’s sources. She’s apparently showing emotion, which is something schizophrenics don’t do and she spent Wednesday and Thursday crying with nurses on the eve of Friday’s court hearing.
On Thursday night, she spoke with a nurse about her future, saying that she didn’t think she needed to stay in the hospital any longer. Doctors think that this is a good sign, since it shows that she can form clear thoughts.
So, while doctors agreed that she is “gravely disabled” on Friday while she has shown signs of improvement, TMZ reports that the doctors were honest and insist that more time is needed to help her out.
Also on Friday, Bynes mother secured temporary conservatorship, giving her legal control over her daughter’s finances and well being.
