Actor August Schellenberg died on Thursday at his home in Dallas. The man most remembered for his work on movies like Free Willy lost his battle with lung cancer at age 77.
Schellenberg's agent, Jamie Levitt, said that the actor was surrounded by his family when he passed away, CBC News reports.
Schellenberg played numerous roles throughout his lengthy career, most of them were characters of Native American descent. He is most remembered for his work on the movie Free Willy and its sequels as main character's mentor.
TMZ reports that his acting work led to an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for his role as Chief Sitting Bull in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.
Some of his other notable acting credits include guest spots on shows like Grey's Anatomy, Saving Grace and Due South. He also starred in 2005's The New World with Colin Farrell.
Schellenberg leaves behind a wife and three daughters.
