Josh Gad, who rocketed to fame after starring on Broadway in The Book Of Mormon, has signed on to co-star in The Comedians, an FX pilot with comedy legend Billy Crystal.
According to Deadline, Gad will take the second lead role, playing a younger comedian who is on the rise, but unfortunately for him, he’s been paired with a veteran comic nearing the end of his career. Crystal, who joined in May, is playing the older comic.
The pilot is based on a Swedish program and will be executive produced by Larry Charles, Matt Nix, Ben Wexler and Crystal. Charles, who was a writer on Seinfeld and an executive producer on Curb Your Enthusiasm, will direct the pilot. Charles is also known for his work with Sacha Baron Cohen, having directed Borat, Bruno and The Dictator.
Gad will be seen as Steve Wozniak in Jobs with Ashton Kutcher and was last on TV in the NBC comedy 1600 Penn.
TheWrap reported today that he is working on an untitled comedy for Miramax and Screen Gems that will co-star Kevin Hart. The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco is in talks to join that project.
