There's love and loss when Little Otter Family Camp celebrates Valentine's Day in July.
Star-swimmer and senior counselor Sarah goes about her morning routine of drug testing and swimming laps but runs into her mysterious friend Miguel. Miguel is a famous writer from Richfield Lodge who Sarah has already shared some tender moments with. Their quick run-in is filled with a lot of flirting, despite the fact that Sarah is dating Robbie, a fellow senior counselor at Little Otter.
The focus on relationships is only increased as Mack, the camp director, later announces at breakfast that Little Otter will be celebrating Valentine's Day in July. She then announces the winner for a private tour around camp with Mack. She is shocked to learn that Roger, the director of Richfield Lodge from across the lake, won the competition. Even though she still feels the hurt from a recent divorce on this day centered around love, everyone else seems excited to celebrate a day for lovers.
Counselors-in-training (CIT) Marina and Greg are especially thrilled. The two have been getting closer, even exchanging friendship bracelets. Kip, another CIT, is jealous of Greg and doesn't hold back from making fun of him in front of Marina. Kip isn't exactly single though. Camper Chloe gives him a note telling him to meet her in the boathouse where the two later make-out. Chloe affirms him that she loves the "darkness" surrounding his experience with cancer and near-misses with death.
Mack wants to go check with Roger to see if he really entered the contest. He confirms that he did and reminds his rival camp director of all the intimate moments the two have spent together. Mack doesn't want to recall any moments and leaves to drop a Valentine's card off to her son, Buzz. She goes into his cabin and walks in on him masturbating to a swimsuit catalog. Mack storms out and Buzz is left feeling incredibly embarrassed and mortified.
Later at the first day of lifeguard classes, Marina is selected to practice mouth-to-mouth. She chooses Greg as her partner and the other girls, Zoe and Chloe, jealously call her a slut. Zoe decides she has to find a way to tear Marina down if she is moving in on Greg. Zoe recalls that Marina has a secret that could follow her to camp and decides that she needs to reveal it to everyone.
Meanwhile, Mack takes Roger on the tour that ends at Mack's favorite romantic spot on camp where she was proposed to by her ex-husband. Roger tenderly promises her that she will find love again and the two share an intimate moment. Just then, Cole, Mack's right-hand man, interrupts them as they are about to lovingly kiss. He is not happy with the two of them spending alone time. Buzz later runs into Cole and learns that even he knows about Mack walking in on his solo-session; that means the entire camp knows!
Once lessons are over Marina showers and gets out of the restroom only to find that her past has come back to haunt her. A topless Facebook photo of her has been posted all over camp! Marina hysterically tries to tear down her shameful pictures and Kip runs to help her. Marina is devastated that the pictures leaked and now the other campers and counselors will see her as a slut. Feeling defeated, she calls her mom begging to go home but can't because she is at her boyfriend's weight-lifting competition. So Marina has to stay at camp and tough it out.
Later that night, the camp's adults go to a local bar. They all gossip about Mack's tour with Roger and realize that their relationship may be more than just sex. This makes Cole feel uneasy, especially when Roger walks into the bar. The two end up in a pool match fueled by a lot of trash talking. Things escalate into a fight outside when Roger suggests Cole was dumped from minor league baseball so he could become a janitor at a Summer camp. The fight includes a lot more trash talking and Roger accidentally punches a keg and breaks his hand. Mack, realizing she's the cause of the altercation, is furious and expresses her anger at Cole for not setting a better example for the kids at camp.
At the bar, Sarah and Robbie run into Miguel. She pretends not to know him but the two have an obvious chemistry. They discuss literature and life experiences which bore Robbie. He later calls Miguel a "douchebag" and upsets Sarah who then calls him a "hick snob." She realizes that maybe she wants more to life than just her routine Summer boyfriend.
The next morning, Zoe wakes up to find a chunk of her hair had been chopped off. Marina got her revenge. Zoe charges Marina at breakfast and the two fight and wrestle on the floor. Almost immediately, the fight gets broken up and the two are punished with sorting garbage. Their punishment turns into another fight and Marina nearly breaks a bottle on Zoe's head when she breaks down and starts crying. Zoe shares that her mom will kill her because her pageant season will be over. Surprised, Marina realizes that they both have terrible moms.
Mack later goes to the Valentine's carnival with Roger where the two leave early so they can have some private time in her cabin. Buzz goes back to his mom's cabin to quickly grab a festive tie and walks in on her getting hot and heavy with Roger.
Meanwhile at the carnival, Kip writes a card for Marina but is convinced to make it sound less stalker-ish and not put so much feeling into it. Greg sees what Kip wrote on his first card and steals his words to write and perform a song dedicated to Marina in front of the whole camp. Marina is moved and gives Greg a loving kiss. Robbie and Sarah also make up at the carnival but she shares with him that she's feeling "lost."
The next day, Kip doesn't know whether to fight for Marina or not. Just then, he receives one last Valentine's card from Chloe asking him to meet her in the boathouse. He is then reminded that at least he has her as she attacks him with heavy-kissing.
Roger visits Mack in her cabin and pick-up where they left off from the night before. She decides maybe they should "put a pin in it." Roger agrees. She then goes and has a conversation with Buzz about privacy and the two exchange door locks. Buzz needs one for his teenage hormones and Mack needs one for her single life.
The next day, Sarah goes for a swim and runs into Miguel again. He thought he wouldn't see her anymore after their awkward encounter at the bar. She climbs onto the dock and plants a big kiss on him and swims away. Leaving him wondering what will happen next between them.
