While the dispute between Time Warner Cable and CBS continues, CBS has agreed to one new deal - with Verizon.
Reuters reports that Verizon said that it and CBS agreed on new retransmission fees, which has been the sticking point in the dispute with TWC. Verizon said that FiOS customers across the country will continue to have CBS networks and more will have the CBS Sports network.
In its statement, Verizon also took a dig at TWC, saying that it has had more customers come in since the blackout began back on Aug. 2.
According to The LA Times, Verizon also announced “exclusive discounts and special promotions” and said it plans to send sales teams to CBS officers to get more subscribers.
The Times notes that while retransmission fees are still the key argument with TWC, TWC is now complaining over how CBS makes its content available on Hulu, Netflix and other online streaming services. Talks between the two sides continues, but no progress has been made.
However, TV Newser does note that the New York City Council convinced the two sides to temporarily lift the blackout for New York debates, starting with the Comptroller debate Wednesday night.
