Chris Brown can breathe a sigh of relief as his hit-and-run charges have been dismissed.
According to LA Times, a judge dismissed the case after stating that a “civil compromise” had been reached.
Brown, 24, rear-ended a Mercedes in May causing a firestorm of media attention and legal woes. His probation was revoked in July, but not before the “Don’t Wake Me Up” singer went on a Twitter tirade in the hopes of clearing his name.
LA Times notes that the case began to crumble after prosecutors dismissed charges stating that Brown was driving without insurance or a driver’s license. Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, explained that Brown paid only for the damages made to the vehicle and no more. He also believes that Brown was being “prosecuted for who he is, not what he’s done.”
The rapper will still appear in court on Friday on charges that he violated his probation. He could face up to four years in jail if convicted.
