WWE star Darren Young has revealed he is gay, making history as the first WWE star in history to come out. The New Jersey native came out to a TMZ cameraman on Wednesday.
Young, 33, was asked if he thinks a gay wrestler could be successful in the WWE and he was very candid in his answer.
"Absolutely. Look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy,” he told TMZ.
There have been other wrestlers in the WWE who have been rumored to be gay, but Young is the first to be signed to a major contract and come out.
"I don't think it matters. Does it matter? Does it change what you think about me?" he continued, Us Weekly reports. "I'm happy with who I am. I'm comfortable with myself. I'm happy to be living the dream. I'm happy with myself. It's very important to me that people see that someone's sexual preference shouldn't really matter."
Young further demonstrated he’s very secure with himself and has nothing to hide, saying he always keeps it professional and his personal life shouldn’t affect business.
"We're all adults. All sports are physical,” he said. “When I come to work, I come to work. This is a business. I'm a WWE superstar. I'm there to entertain. That's what my job is and I do it well."
