Despite reports that Dr. Luke officially signed on as the third judge on Fox’s American Idol, a new report has surfaced that says he will not be a part of the judging panel with Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban due to conflict of interest.

In what have otherwise been a done deal, the producer responsible for an array of hits from Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and more, is signed to Sony Music, which is Universal Music Group’s (who owns exclusive rights to Idol) competitor.

Sources also tell THR that Dr. Luke realized he doesn’t want to go that route in his career.

"He really loves his artists and wants to build up the label," a source said of his Kemosabe imprint. “Luke wants to build an entertainment company ... after a lot of conversations, both Luke and Sony Music CEO Doug Morris came to the mutual agreement that taking Dr. Luke out of the Idol running ‘was the best thing for all parties.’”

As of now, Keith Urban is the only judge confirmed for next season. Lopez already reportedly signed a deal but the network hasn’t announced it. For the third seat, Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun is reportedly being considered.
