Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson is reportedly being encouraged to run for Congressman in Louisiana when Republican Rep. Rodney Alexander retires at the end of next month.

Vital Republican operatives are urging Robertson, who acts as CEO of his family businesses Duck Commander and Buck Commander, which are game call and hunting companies, to run for a congressional seat.

An outside advisor to House GOP leadership told Washington Examiner, "My boys want to run Willie Robertson for the seat.”

Another House advisor source said, however, "Celebrity candidates are very appealing to inside-the-Beltway consultants and reporters, but they usually run lousy campaigns. That, and Louisiana tends not to favor celebrity candidates."
NY Daily News reports that the soon-to-be open seat is in Louisiana’s fifth district, which Robertson’s home of Monroe lies in.

Robertson landed on the ballot for the NRA’s board of directors this summer and toured with public figures such as Rick Warren, Tim Tebow and Sarah Palin for Christian lectures.

The Robertson family hasn’t responded to the report and insiders say it isn’t likely he will give up his CEO and television duties for a political seat.
