Fox Television Studios and NBC will not work together on the network’s planned Hillary Clinton mini-series.
Last week, the New York Times reported that FTVS was in talks with NBC to produce the project, which would star Diane Lane as the former First Lady and Secretary of State. The partnership would have been particularly ironic because FTVS is a sister company of the conservative Fox News and Republicans have been blasting the project since it was announced.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC is back at square one in its search for a TV studio to actually produce the series. A source for THR said that the talks broke down because of disagreements on details, not because of the fallout the project has generated.
A spokeswoman for FTVS also confirmed the news to TheWrap.
Earlier Friday, the Republican National Committee voted to shut NBC out from the GOP presidential primary debates in 2016. The RNC also threw CNN intot he mix, because CNN is planning its own documentary on Clinton’s career.
While NBC did not issue a statement today, NBC News reports that CNN stressed that its project is nowhere near completion. “We encouraged all interested parties to wait until the program premieres before judgments are made about it. Unfortunately, the RNC was not willing to do that,” the network said.
NBC News previously stated that it is “completely independent of NBC Entertainment and has no involvement in this project.”
