Director Frank Darabont's latest television adventure takes viewers to 1940s Los Angeles, with police officers going head-to-head with mobsters who rule the city. On Tuesday, TNT revealed the project's final title and announced when it will premiere.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the series, now titled Mob City, is based on L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City, a nonfiction book about the city's struggle with mobsters like “Bugsy” Siegel and Mickey Cohen. The project originally carried the book's title, L.A. Noir, but was then retitled Lost Angeles, which the network also decided to change before today's news.
TNT opted not to use the title L.A. Noir since Rockstar published a 2011 videogame with the title L.A. Noire and had threatened legal action, according to Darabont.
The cast includes Neal McDonough, Ed Burns and Jeremy Luke, the network said. Other familiar actors include The Walking Dead stars Jeffrey DeMunn and Jon Berenthal.
Darabont was the showrunner for The Walking Dead's first season and left during season two. To movie fans, he is best known for directing the film adaptations of The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption. He wrote and directed the pilot and will executive produce the event series' remaining episodes.
Mob City will premiere on Dec. 4 and will run for six episodes. Here's the preview.
