George Clooney and Sandra Bullock looked really happy at the Venice film Festival on Wednesday, where they promoted the world premiere of Gravity. Apparently, they looked so happy that tabloids assumed that he was “making eyes” at Bullock. The report gained so much notice that Bullock and Clooney actually addressed them on Thursday.

According to The Associated Press, the British tabloid The Sun assumed that their happiness could only mean that Clooney was trying to flirt with Bullock. The Sun ran the headline “George Clooney ‘makes eyes’ at Sandra Bullock?”

In a quick interview with the AP, Bullock dismissed the report. “He was not making eyes. Maybe cross-eyes, but that is about the extent of his goggle eyes,” the Oscar winner said. She joked that the two have so much “dirt” on each other that they command “a level of respect and understanding. I adore George.”

Clooney and Warner Bros., which is releasing Gravity, also issued a statement, noting that they have known each other for years. “We are just friends,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Clooney’s other adventures in Venice includes being reported for driving a speedboat. Vanity Fair reports that local media confirmed that a lawyer asked if Clooney had the right nautical licence and permits to do such a thing.

As previously reported, after Gravity premiered, the film earned rave reviews from critics. The film hits theaters in the U.S. in October.
