Former President George W. Bush was in the hospital this morning to undergo heart surgery, a day after a physical examination. He will be released tomorrow and back to his regular schedule by Thursday.
USA Today reports that Bush spokesman Freddy Ford said that Bush’s doctor discovered blockage in an artery in his heart. His doctor suggested that he have a stent placed to open the artery. “The procedure was performed successfully this morning, without complication, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital,” Ford said.
According to CBS News, the 67-year-old Bush will be home tomorrow and “is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday.”
Bush held office for two terms from 2001-2009 and is the son of former President George H.W. Bush.
Ford added that Bush “is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him ... and he encourages us all to get our regular check-ups.”
