Jennifer Garner is nicely settled into family life with her husband, Ben Affleck, and their three children. But in an interview with the September issue of Allure, Garner makes it known she wants to have an identity outside of her marriage.
She talks about wanting him close by on red carpets, but admits it can become “too much” when they’re always seen together. "It's a very conscious decision,” she explained of being photographed separately.
"Sometimes it's a pain because my heels are so high and it would be really nice to have his [Affleck's] arm. And he's such a great date! But it can be too much," she told the magazine "I think especially for women, they can really lose their identity and just become 'wife of.'"
Garner continued that she keeps her image by making sure she stays in shape. "There were times I had to watch every calorie that went into my body. Doing something like that again ... it's not exactly on the top of my list," she said, Us Weekly reports.
"I've been working out with Valerie Waters for 13 or 14 years. I'll do different things. I did Spin for a little while, and I like yoga. I've been doing Pilates with this woman who was trying to get my abs back in shape after the last baby kind of did me in."
She does attribute her husband to when she feels her best, saying "With the lights being off, I mean, it doesn't hurt to have great hair and makeup done, I'm not going to lie to you. But, it also doesn't hurt to have somebody who likes you when you don't have great hair and makeup done."
