Justified writer Elmore Leonard suffered a stroke last week and remains hospitalized.
According to TMZ the Detroit native is currently being treated in an undisclosed location after suffering the stroke on July 29.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Leonard, 87, is recovering, and that the stroke was not life-threatening.
Gregg Sutter, a longtime friend of Leonard’s, explained that Get Shorty writer is “a fighter” and that the family remains “optimistic.”
Sutter tells The Detroit News, “Elmore had a stroke; it happened a week ago, last Monday. He’s doing better every day, and the family is guardedly optimistic. He’s showing great spirit. He’s a fighter, and we’re glad to see that.”
At the time of his stroke, Leonard was in the midst of writing his 46th book. “He’s very much into his 46th novel,” Sutter said, “working very hard.”
Leonard’s other credits include Hombre, Get Shorty and Out of Sight.
More details surrounding Leonard’s health is expected to arise in the coming days.
