It’s been three and a half years since we’ve seen Katherine Heigl as Dr. Izzie Stevens on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. Heigl, 34, rose to fame from her portrayal of the intern turned resident, and the actress is now ready to make a comeback on the silver screen.

According to USA Today, Heigl hopes to not only star in a new, untitled drama being written by Alexi Hawley (The Following, Body of Proof, Castle), but she hopes to produce as well. The drama appears to be completely different from Heigl’s medical soap opera. Deadline reports Hawley’s drama is about how the CIA handles hotspots around the globe, Heigl’s character an adviser/communications liaison for the U.S. President. Major networks such as NBC, among cable networks, are eyeing the drama for the 2014-2015 television season.

Heigl was a part of the Grey’s ensemble for six and a half seasons, when she quit halfway through the sixth season to spend more time with her adopted daughter Naleigh and husband Josh Kelley. She reportedly had disputes with series creator Shonda Rhimes, as she withdrew her Emmy nomination, citing the material as insufficient. Since Grey’s Heigl has starred in films such as Knocked Up and 27 Dresses.

The actress now seems ready to start the next stage of her acting career. What are your thoughts on Heigl’s potential return to TV?
