Kelly Clarkson and her fiancé Brandon Blackstock have decided to elope. The American Idol winner, 31, says the couple simply got too overwhelmed with planning their fall, outdoor affair.

"We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, 'So, we change our minds and we want to elope.' We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions,” she told People.

She also said they did already send out a save-the-date for Oct. 20, but “it got crazy and all the details were leaking." The couple then sent out another note to guests, saying “Thank you so much for understanding, but it's just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister.”

She went on to say their schedules are so hectic that’s it’s hard to focus on wedding planning when Blackstock has two children and they both have busy careers.

“I have a Christmas record coming out. I'm doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now, have two kids who just started school. We're going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and [Brandon]'s got one of the biggest artists [Blake Shelton] in country music. He's flying everywhere,” she said.

Clarkson also said they laughed about it in the end because “Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time,” so they would rather have an intimate wedding celebrating just the two of them.

She also told Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday that she was “so over” the wedding.
