Despite reports that Lamar Odom has been addicted to crack cocaine for the past two years, a new report says the NBA star has been smoking OxyContin. However, he’s been cleared when being drug tested by the NBA because he has a prescription for it.
Throughout the past year, he’s been drug tested by the league at least six times. But since he has a valid prescription for the drug, he hasn’t been tossed from any teams.
“Lamar never registered a dirty test over the last two years,” a source told RadarOnline. “Lamar was able to smoke OxyContin and it was detected during several drug tests. But because he had a valid prescription, it wasn’t a violation. It allowed him to skate through the system. He knew he could smoke it and get away with it.”
Odom also reportedly abused Ambien, which is used to treat short-term sleeping problems.
Despite reports he’s been hooked on crack cocaine, a source points out “If Lamar had been using crack cocaine, or any other illegal drug, it would have been detected during the league’s drug testing routine.”
On Monday, former teammates from both the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers were reportedly trying to convince him to admit his drug issues publicly and go to rehab. His wife also attempted an intervention last week but when he refused, she kicked him out.
Odom was suspended from the Clippers in 2011 for testing positive for marijuana.
