After being announced as the Choice Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, Lea Michele shocked the audience and walked onstage to accept her award.
Lea, who has been keeping a low profile the past few weeks after the death of her boyfriend and co-star on the series Glee, Cory Montieth, did not come onstage with the rest of the cast to accept the award for Choice Comedy Show.
Instead a glowing but teary eyed Lea came from backstage after the cast acceptance and gave an emotional, heartfelt speech about how grateful she is for the fans offering their support during this difficult time.
Lea dedicated her award to Cory.
“For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love, we are going to get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart.”
While accepting the award for Choice Comedy Show, the cast sent their love to Cory and also offered condolences to fans. Glee co-stars Chris Colfer, Amber Riley and Jenna Ushkowitz stayed onstage to offer support while Lea spoke.
It was a beautiful, chill bumps worthy moment in live television.
Although she was recently seen attending a friend’s baby shower, according to Popsugar.com, this is the first public outreach Lea has made about Cory aside from Twitter.
While a source for People said that Lea’s life is “incredibly painful” without Cory, she and the cast of Glee made it clear tonight that they are strong and united and will support her through this hard time.
