Glee star Lea Michele gave an emotional tribute to boyfriend Cory Monteith at the Teen Choice Awards Sunday night. Michele accepted her award for Choice TV Actress: Comedy for her role as Rachel Berry. Michele, 26, went on to dedicate the award to Monteith, who died last month of a drug overdose, according to MTV News. “I wanted to dedicate this award to Cory,” said the Glee star. “For all you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love, we’re going to get through this together.”

“He was very special to me and also to the world. And we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart,” Michele said. US Magazine reported Michele wore a gold “Cory” necklace in honor of the late actor. The couple began dating in 2012.

This the actress' first public appearance since Monteith's death. Michele addressed Monteith's death on July 29th through Twitter.

Michele’s Glee cast mates also accepted the award for Choice TV Comedy according to People.com. “Cory was like a brother to us,” said Amber Riley, who portrays Mercedes on the musical sitcom. “He was always ready to sign an autograph and take a picture with a fan, and he loves you Gleeks.” Co-star Jenna Ushkowitz added, “We know that Cory would have wanted to dedicate this to you guys.” Glee is set to premiere this fall with a tribute episode planned for Monteith.
