Shortly after it was reported that a missing person’s report for Scientology founder David Miscavige’s wife Michelle ‘Shelly’ Miscavige, the Los Angeles Police Department said that the report was unfounded and the case is closed. The report was apparently filed by actress Leah Remini, who left the church last month.

As we reported last night, RadarOnline and other sites reported that Remini had filed the report on Shelly Miscavige. The news had also been reported by Tony Ortega, the former Village Voice editor and critic of Scientology.

A spokesperson for the LAPD would only confirm that Remini filed the report and gave no further details.

Just hours after the news came out, an LAPD source for The New York Daily News said that the case is closed. “Detectives met with (Michelle) Miscavige in person. The investigation is completed and classified as unfounded,” the source said.

Remini’s problems with Scientology reportedly began when she wondered why Shelly didn’t attended Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding and was told that she didn’t have the authority to ask that question. Shelly reportedly hasn’t been seen in public since 2006, but the Church has repeatedly said that she is a very private person and is still working for the church.

“Mrs. Miscavige is a private person and her affairs are a private matter. She continues to work in the Church as she always has,” a statement sent to RadarOnline read.
