NBA star LeBron James revealed through a picture he posted on Instagram that he had a police escort usher him to Miami’s SunLife Stadium on Friday night to the Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake concert. However, all Miami police departments are denying involvement as backlash has ensued.
The location would be Miami Dade police department’s jurisdiction, but they deny involvement in escorting the star to the show.
TMZ spoke to the Miami Dade PD, as well as the Miami City PD, Miami Gardens PD and Florida Highway Patrol, who all deny using their police cars to escort James to the stadium.
An officer that belongs to the Miami Dade PD says now that they are “investigating” the matter because it would be against protocol if one of their officers did this.
The basketball star posted the video of himself inside the police car driving on the wrong side of the road with the caption “They treat us so well! Needed it cause traffic was nuts!!”
One Instagram user responded, “Only in America do they use police escorts to drive in oncoming traffic to go to a concert when their are ordinary hardworking people driving home from work eager to see their family. This is why Lebron James isn't the greatest player in the NBA. #nocharacter #privilegeabuse,” while another wrote “Why, would you post this? U Broke a celebrity rule. It is illegal for an agency to show preferential treatment, and makes it hard for celebs to get this done in the future. Not a smart thing to do...”
