Lee Thompson Young, a former Disney Channel child star who successfully found work as he grew up, died on Monday, shocking Hollywood. The young actor died of an apparent suicide and was just 29-years-old. He recently starred on TNT’s popular Boston-set crime drama Rizzoli & Isles and the crew took a moment to remember him.
Young was found dead in his Los Angeles home after the show’s crew called his landlord after he didn’t show up to the set. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and his rep later confirmed the sad news.
Following his death, TNT issued a statement from executive producer Janet Tamaro, noting that the crew is “devastated” by the loss. The statement continues:
“We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and off-screen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother.”
The show’s official Twitter account also sent a short statement.

Norman Buckley, a TV director working on the show’s recent episodes, added, “So very sad about Lee Thompson Young. This is heartbreaking.”
Finally, the show’s creator, Tamaro, wrote several heartwarming messages, first writing, “We are all without the words to truly express our collective grief and profound sadness at the loss of such a sweet, bright light.” She later added, “Unbearably sad. We love who you were, and that's what we'll remember.”

Young earned a breakout role on Disney’s Famous Jett Jackson and also appeared on Scrubs and Smallville. Rizzoli & Isles is in the middle of its fourth season and was renewed for a fifth.
