Lindsay Lohan has apparently moved on from The Canyons, since she was a no-show at the film’s screening on Friday at the Venice Film Festival. Director Paul Schrader said that she was supposed to be there, but a rep for Lohan said she never committed to it.
“She was supposed to be here today. She said she would be, but she is not,” Schrader said, reports ABC News. Schrader also sounded relieved that he was “free” of having to deal with her. “For the last 16 months, I've been hostage, by my own choosing, to a very talented but unpredictable actress,” he said.
Lohan’s rep said she never committed to going to Venice and a source told ABC that she wanted to go, but couldn’t. “She is very happy the film is showing,” the source said.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film was screened out of competition at the festival. IT has already been released in the U.S. and is available on Video On Demand.
“Everything is changing,” Shrader said about the film’s release and the Hollywood structure. “The Canyons was shot for every media, with designs to go straight to [VOD]. We did that because all the cinemas are closing.”
Last month, Schader compared Lohan to Marilyn Monroe and echoed the sentiments today.
“They aren’t the same as actresses, they are very different,” he said, THR reported. “But both have had trouble separating their professional lives from their personal lives."
