Mark Wahlberg and Justin Bieber were both stars at a young age, so it makes sense for the Oscar nominee to offer the “As Long As You Love Me” singer some advice. During a recent interview in the U.K. for 2 Guns, Wahlberg spoke about Bieber, who he has been trying to work with for over a year on a movie.
E! News reports that while speaking with The Sun, Wahlberg was asked to comment on Bieber’s recent off-stage antics. “He's a teenager,” the actor, who performed under the name Marky Mark, said. “Obviously he's living in a different day and age where everybody's got a cell phone and paparazzi's everywhere.”
Wahlberg noted that at least he hasn’t been to prison yet. “But, I was in prison before I got a record out. I don't think he's been to prison, and I don't think he wants to go,” he said.
When asked to give Bieber some advice, Wahlberg put on an English accent and said, “Justin, are you listening? Don't be so naughty. Be a nice boy. Pull your trousers up. Make your mum proud. Stop smoking all that weed, you little bastard!”
He added that people should just let Bieber live his life. “I would hope that he would look at it like I wish I looked at it, and think now is the time to be focused and to be disciplined and to try to be the best that I can be at what I do in his career, like an athlete should,” he explained.
Bieber and Wahlberg had hopes to work together in a basketball movie, but scheduling has made that dream nearly impossible. It “still could happen,” Wahlberg said.
Wahlberg currently stars with Denzel Washington in 2 Guns.
