Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are splitting up to “take some time apart.”

Publicist Cece Yorke announced in a statement that the couple, who have not been photographed together since April, “are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage,” New York Daily News reports.

The news isn’t exactly shocking as Douglas recently spent time off the coast of Sardinia on a yacht by himself, while Zeta–Jones was seen in New York. They also haven’t been pictured together since a gala in April at Manhattan’s Lincoln Center.

According to People the couple decided time apart was needed after the 68-year-old actor returned from the Cannes Film Festival.

While they are taking a break, there has been no action taken towards divorce or legal separation. And People notes that sources say that “They want the best for their kids, no matter what happens.” The couple has two children, 13-year-old Dylan and Carys, 10.

NY Daily News notes that it hasn’t been the easiest last few years for the couple as Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2010, which he famously said, "is caused by something called HPV, which actually comes about from cunnilingus."

Zeta-Jones is currently dealing with Bipolar II disorder.
