Michael Jackson’s ex-wife, Debbie Rowe, testified in the wrongful death lawsuit the Jackson family has filed against This Is It concert promoter AEG.
Rowe, who is the mother of Jackson’s two oldest children; Prince and Paris, was married to the pop star for three years from 1996-1999.
Under oath in Los Angeles Superior Court, Rowe, 54, testified about his “incredible” fear of pain. "Michael had a very low pain tolerance," she said, BBC reports.
"His fear of pain was incredible. I think the doctors took advantage of him that way," she added. "Unfortunately, some of the doctors decided that when Michael was in pain they would try to see who could give him the best painkiller.”
The Jackson family is trying to prove that AEG was negligent when hiring Dr. Conrad Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of the “Thriller” singer in 2009.
Murray administered a lethal dosage of propofol to Jackson, and Rowe said he had difficulty sleeping during his HIStory tour. "Michael was at the end of his rope,” she said, adding he was "more worried about not sleeping than dying because he couldn't perform” without it.
NBCNews reports Rowe testified Jackson had been using the drug since the 1990s.
