NBC is being criticized by both the left and right over its plans for a Hillary Clinton miniseries starring Diane Lane as the former Secretary of State. Now, its being criticized by the NBC News division, which has had to stress that it is not linked to NBC Entertainment, which is producing the show.
During a chat on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, political director Chris Todd lamented the fact that NBC Entertainment is going ahead with the project, calling it a ‘total nightmare.’
“This is why this miniseries is a total nightmare for NBC News,” Todd said, notes The Hollywood Reporter. “We know there's this giant firewall [between the news and entertainment division], we have nothing to do with it, we know that we'd love probably to be as critical or whatever it is going to be if it comes out, but there's nothing we can do about it and we're going to only own the negative.”
According to TheWrap, Joe Scarborough asked Todd if he means that NBC News gets all the negative press while NBC Entertainment gets all the money.
“Correct,” Todd replied.
As we previously reported, NBC and CNN are both being attacked for Clinton projects. CNN is working on a documentary that it also hopes to release next year.
NBC News did previously issue a statement, noting that it “has no involvement in this project.”
