It’s the season finale of Necessary Roughness, and roughness is definitely necessary. After spending the night together, Nico and Dani visit Terrence and Sheera. Terrence is in a hyperbolic tube, attempting to regrow his torn muscle mass that way instead of going with the extremely suspicious “experimental treatment” suggested by V3’s clinic. When Terrence stole the bottle of medicine just after being prepped to receive it, he gave it to Nico to give it to the FBI to analyze it. Turns out, it’s a hormone called “IGF1” that your body creates naturally, but if synthesized and added to the body otherwise, it’s boosts the healing process in a person to unnatural rates. It’s definitely illegal when used for performance enhancement - but Sheera protests. If they can’t detect it - they won’t know. Nico explains, the hormone affects your genes, your DNA, so if they, the people who check for drug use, get a hold onto some DNA from before the athlete got the treatment and compare it to after the athlete got the treatment, they could detect it.

At V3, Connor is walking a woman around the V3 promenade. Nico and Dani walk up and, as Nico looks away embarrassed, Dani introduces herself to the woman Connor calls “Alex.” “Alex” is Alex Careles, Nico’s wife. Connor calls Dani away for the meeting and leaves Nico and Alex alone.

At the V3 meeting, Connor introduces Bruce as the new CFO of V3. Dani is suspicious because usually once someone has left V3, they’re never coming back, and Bruce was already fired when she was Connor’s personal assistant. Nico and Dani meet up in her office later, and Dani finds out that it was business when Nico and Alex married, but it was occasionally a real relationship between them. Now, it’s back to business and Nico wanted to help her one last time. During everything that’s going on, Nico and Dani are still looking for Darryl Hutchinson. Dani’s even tried to get in contact with his father who has no idea where he could be either. After Nico and Dani wrap up their serious talk, Paloma interrupts to tell them she’s found Darryl Hutchinson under a different name.

Meanwhile, it’s possible for Terrence is to play during the upcoming game, but his coach isn’t allowing him to. He’s still in the position to get hurt even worse, and if that happens, it could mean his career.

Troy Cutler has been taken into custody by the FBI. He tells them that a couple years back, Connor went to China to hear about a new miracle drug. Turns out, it was the IGF1 hormone. Troy arranged to have it funneled into the states and it was paid for by the V3 foundation. The accountant was paid off. The drug was used occasionally on students at the V3 academy.

Dani goes to see Darryl at the restaurant he’s working at now. On his break, he gives Dani the rundown. Someone came up to him with praises and told him he’s got to keep that ability forever, and offered him the drug. It was entirely through the doctor at the clinic, Dr. Strauss, not through Connor. Dani was surprised to hear that and asked if Connor was ever involved. He was, just not directly. Either way, Darryl wants to talk. Dani lets Nico know.

Connor just found out that Alex was released from Immigration Services and when that happens, it usually ends in deportation. If it doesn’t, it means you’ve got friends in high places or are working for the government. Connor asks Bruce about that hacker she let loose in V3 - and she tells him again that wasn’t her. Now, they’re really suspicious.

Terrence and Sheera are having problems again - she doesn’t know why Terrence doesn’t do the treatment. “If they don’t find out, it’s not cheating,” is what she keeps saying. To Terrence, this is a huge red flag. And it looks like it might finally be over between to the two.

The next day, Dani makes plans to meet with Connor. Nico shows up instead, tells her that Connor is absconding. Apparently the V3 clinic was raided that morning. Bruce is taking over in Connor’s absence.

Before the big game that decides playoffs, Coach Purnell tells Terrence he can’t play. Terrence protests - they’re playing against Terrence’s old team, the Hawks, along with Coach Wizinski. Terrence swears he’ll be careful, but the team is being extra rough with him because of their history. He’s taken off the field and obviously in the a lot of pain. After the game is looking better for the Hawks, Coach Purnell lets Terrence go back in for the last play. At the last minute, Terrence passes the ball, and the Hawks are heading to the playoffs.

Connor’s on his way out to his plane, and Dani shows up. She’s got a bottle of the experimental treatment. Dani confronts Connor about pressuring academy students into taking the treatment. Apparently, Darryl and Connor met at some point before Darryl left V3. Darryl told Connor about what was happening at the clinic and Connor told him he knew about it, and that he knows about everything that happens under his roof. Connor tells Dani she doesn't understand, so she presses him to explain what really happened. He tries, but Dani isn't satisfied. She makes him find a new agent for Darryl, one that isn’t involved with V3. Then, Dani gives Connor the bottle and tells him to do with it what he will.

Nico visits Dani again after everything is blown over - he tells her his full name and part of his personal history. He wants her to be comfortable with him - not be afraid of the mysterious shroud he’s put together. Nico takes her to the airport where they board a small jet. Dani can’t believe he borrowed a jet from V3 for them, but Nico tells her it’s his, and that she’s still got a lot to learn about him.
