Internet fan backlash against the controversial casting of Ben Affleck as the famous dark knight has amounted to numerous petitions rejecting the 41 year-old actor as an acceptable Batman.
The most successful petition was founded by John Roden and, as of this writing, it has exceeded its goal of 75,000 signatures and continues to climb.
Reported by Mirror UK, the change.org petition calls for "the removal of Ben Affleck as Batman."
Roden calls Affleck "not intimidating enough" and calls his portrayal of Marvel superhero Daredevil "atrocious" and an example of how he's not remotely close to the superhero."
Affleck was revealed as the new Batman in a left-field announcement on late Friday. Affleck will portray Bruce Wayne and his alter ego in the forthcoming Man of Steel sequel, to be released July 17, 2015. The choice took many by surprise, as Affleck's name was neither mentioned nor rumored previously for the part.
The untitled Batman/Superman film is to be directed by Man of Steel helmer Zack Snyder and, in addition to Henry Cavill as Superman, features the returns of Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane to their roles.
