The biopic about Princess Diana’s life, Diana, starring Naomi Watts reveals the relationship the late royal had with Dr. Hasnat Khan.
The trailer shows the relationship with Khan, who she is said to have been “madly in love” with.
Khan is now breaking his silence to Daily Mail, saying the movie does not depict him properly.
Kahn said he didn’t help make the film in any way, and he will not be watching it when it comes out.
“It is based on gossip and Diana’s friends talking about a relationship that they didn’t know much about, and some of my relatives who didn’t know much about it either,” he said. “It is all based on hypotheses and gossip.”
Just by looking at the promotional photos, Khan said the producers “got it completely wrong.” He added, “There wasn’t any hierarchy in our relationship. She wasn’t a Princess and I wasn’t a doctor.”
Kahn already cleared up rumors about meeting with the author of the book the movie is based on, Kate Snell, who wrote Diana: Her Last Love about their love story.
He said he met with her once and said he didn’t want to answer any of her questions. As for speaking with people he knew, he explained “I said if you are asking for my permission, I will not say go and speak to them, but I remember distinctly saying, ‘If you want to and if they agree, I can’t do anything about it.’ I said, ‘I will not give you their addresses and phone numbers, but if you get in touch with them, I can’t stop you seeing them. It is up to them.’ That is how I left it.”
Kahn also revealed the reason he and Diana split in 1997 was due to “non-progression.”
“Even after two years, the relationship wasn’t leading to a meaningful progression or conclusion and that was the main stress on both of us,” he said.
