Platinum-selling rapper Fat Joe, or Joseph Cartagena, turned himself into prison Monday to serve four months in prison plus one year of supervised release and a $15,000 fine on charges of tax evasion.

Cartagena, 42, pleaded guilty in December 2012 for failing to pay taxes on over $1 million incomes in 2007 and 2008. He did not file income taxes for two years.

According to Uinterview he was sentenced June 24 at a hearing in Newark, New Jersey, and turned himself in Monday to the Federal Detention Center in Miami, Florida.

Cartagena seems positive about the situation and is looking forward to getting back to his Miami Beach home with his wife Lorena and daughter Azaryah in December.

“I did everything I could to achieve what I could, to move my family; I tried to stay positive, focus on the positive, and get myself out,” Cartagena said about his childhood growing up in the projects in the Bronx, Daily Mail reports. “I guess I'm surprised, caused I worked so hard to not end up in court, that I'm here. This is the last place I thought I would be.”
